Resumo
Viagem ao norte do Brazil feita nos annos 1613 a 1614, pelo Padre Ivo D'Evreux is a historical account by Capuchin missionary Ivo D’Evreux, documenting his two-year mission in Maranhão, Brazil, during 1613–1614.
The text describes the establishment of the French colony, interactions with the Tupinambá and other indigenous groups, their customs, beliefs, and conversion to Christianity, alongside the challenges faced by the missionaries and French colonizers.
It provides detailed observations of the region’s flora, fauna, and geography, as well as the construction of the Forte de São Luiz.
Published in 1874 from a rare manuscript, it includes an introduction by Ferdinand Denis and translation by César Augusto Marques.
The work stands as a vivid chronicle of early colonial Brazil and French-indigenous relations.
