Resumo
In "A Queda d'um Anjo," Calisto Elói, a conservative and erudite nobleman from rural Portugal, deeply rooted in ancient traditions and history, is persuaded to run for parliament and wins the election.
Upon moving to Lisbon, he encounters the corrupt, modern urban society, succumbing to political intrigue, social vanities, and temptations that lead to his moral and personal downfall. The novel satirizes 19th-century Portuguese politics, aristocracy, and the clash between rural conservatism and urban decadence.
