Résumé
La corde au cou is a crime novel by Émile Gaboriau, the "father of the detective novel," published in 1873.
Unlike many of his other works, the narrative doesn't follow the detective but instead focuses on the accused. It tells the story of a man, crushed by a murder accusation, whose lawyer conducts his own investigation to prove his client's innocence.
The truth is not revealed until the final pages of the book.
