Resumen
"La Celestina" is a landmark of Spanish literature and a bridge between the medieval and Renaissance literary traditions.
Originally published in 1499, the work is structured as a dialogue novel or dramatic text, blending elements of tragedy and comedy—hence the original title: "Tragicomedia de Calisto y Melibea."
The story revolves around Calisto, a young nobleman who falls madly in love with Melibea, a beautiful and intelligent young woman. Unable to win her affection on his own, Calisto turns to Celestina, an old and cunning procuress (matchmaker and madam) who manipulates people for her own gain. Celestina’s schemes set off a chain of passion, deceit, and betrayal, leading to a tragic ending for nearly all involved.
