Resumen
Cádiz is the fifth novel in the first series of Galdós’s monumental Episodios Nacionales, which dramatizes major events in 19th-century Spanish history. This installment is set during the Siege of Cádiz (1810–1812), when Napoleon’s forces attempted—but failed—to conquer the city.
At the same time, Spain’s first liberal constitution was being drafted within its walls, making Cádiz a symbol of both resistance and reform.
The novel continues to follow Gabriel de Araceli, the fictional young narrator from previous volumes, now deeply entangled in both warfare and politics, as Spain attempts to define its future.
