Summary
After a series of mysterious shipwrecks are attributed to a “sea monster,” the U.S.
government assembles an expedition aboard the frigate Abraham Lincoln to investigate. Onboard are:
Professor Pierre Aronnax, a French marine biologist
Conseil, his loyal servant
Ned Land, a Canadian harpooner
During the hunt, the trio encounters the “monster” — not a creature, but a futuristic submarine: the Nautilus, commanded by the enigmatic Captain Nemo.
Captive yet treated as guests, Aronnax, Conseil, and Ned Land embark on an extraordinary journey through the oceans aboard the Nautilus.
They explore coral reefs, sunken ships, lost cities, and even the submerged ruins of Atlantis.
They survive squid attacks, underwater volcanoes, and polar ice traps — all while uncovering Nemo’s brilliance and bitterness.
Though Aronnax is fascinated by the underwater world, Ned Land grows restless, determined to escape. Eventually, after witnessing both the marvels and the moral ambiguity of Nemo’s world, the trio makes a daring escape just as the Nautilus heads into a whirlpool off the coast of Norway.
