Summary
Set during World War I, the story begins with American shipbuilder Bowen Tyler, who survives a German U-boat attack only to find himself aboard the very submarine that torpedoed his ship. Through a daring mutiny, Tyler and other survivors seize control of the U-boat, only to become hopelessly lost at sea.
They eventually drift into an uncharted land called Caspak, a mysterious, prehistoric island near Antarctica.
Caspak defies all natural laws—dinosaurs roam free, cavemen fight for survival, and evolution appears to occur in real-time within individuals rather than generations.
As Tyler and his allies battle both ancient beasts and hostile tribes, they discover that Caspak holds secrets not only to humanity’s past—but possibly its future.
Tyler also develops a romance with Lys La Rue, a mysterious woman with a critical link to the island’s bizarre evolutionary system.
