Summary
In this biting comedy, Tartuffe is a pious-looking impostor who ingratiates himself with the wealthy Orgon, pretending to be a devout and humble man of God.
Completely taken in by Tartuffe’s act, Orgon invites him to live in his house, offers him his daughter’s hand in marriage, and even signs over his estate.
However, Tartuffe is no saint — he's a manipulative fraud who tries to seduce Orgon's wife, Elmire, while scheming to take everything from his gullible host.
The rest of the household sees through Tartuffe’s mask, and they struggle to convince Orgon before it’s too late.
Just as Tartuffe seems poised to win, the king intervenes, exposing the hypocrite and restoring order, showcasing justice and wisdom in the monarchy.
