Summary

Set in 17th-century France, Cyrano de Bergerac tells the story of Cyrano, a brilliant poet, swordsman, and soldier with a larger-than-life nose—which he believes makes him unlovable. Though he's witty, brave, and charismatic, Cyrano is plagued by insecurity about his appearance, especially when it comes to love.

Cyrano is secretly in love with Roxane, his beautiful and intelligent cousin. But she confesses to him that she loves another man—Christian, a handsome but tongue-tied cadet in Cyrano's regiment.

Putting his own feelings aside, Cyrano agrees to help Christian woo Roxane by writing passionate love letters on his behalf. Roxane falls deeply in love with the soul behind the letters—unaware it’s Cyrano’s heart she truly adores.

As war, deception, and fate play their roles, the story unfolds into one of the most poignant and bittersweet love triangles in all of literature.
